چکیده
The present status of the solar neutrino problem is reviewed. The strongest motivation for new neutrino physics comes from the complete phenomenological failure of astrophysical solutions: (1) The standard solar model is excluded by each of the solar neutrino experiments. (2) The combined results of Homestake and Kamiokande are incompatible with any astrophysical solution. (3) Even if the Homestake results were ignored entirely, there is no realistic solar model so far that describes the Kamiokande and gallium data simultaneously within their experimental uncertainties. On the other hand, the MSW solutions provide a complete description of the data, strongly hinting at the existence of mass and mixing of neutrinos. The MSW predictions for the future experiments are given in detail. It is stressed that solar model uncertainties are significant in determining the oscillation parameters and in making predictions for the future experiments. Especially, a 8B flux (or S17) smaller by 20% than that of the Bahcall-Pinsonneault model can make the interpretation of the charged to neutral current ratio measurement in SNO ambiguous.

The energy spectrum of recoil electrons from solar neutrino scattering, as observed by Superkamiokande, is deformed with respect to that expected from SSM calculations. We considered ν − e scattering from neutrinos produced by the electron–capture on 8B nuclei, e +8 B →8 Be + νe, as a possible explanation of the spectral deformation. A flux ΦeB ≃ 10 4 cm−2 s−1 could account for Superkamiokande ...

If neutrinos are to play a relevant cosmological role, they must be essentially degenerate. We study whether radiative corrections can or cannot be responsible for the small mass splittings, in agreement with all the available experimental data. We perform an exhaustive exploration of the bimaximal mixing scenario, finding that (i) the vacuum oscillations solution to the solar neutrino problem ...

We investigate the possibility that the large mixing of neutrinos is induced by their large coupling to a five-dimensional bulk neutrino. In the strong coupling limit the model is exactly soluble. It gives rise to an oscillation amplitude whose squared-mass difference is independent of the channel, thus making it impossible to explain both the solar and the atmospheric neutrino oscillations sim...

We introduce a simple flavor symmetry breaking scheme, in which charged lepton masses have a strong hierarchy and neutrino masses are almost degenerate. It is possible to obtain a natural suppression of lepton flavor mixing between the 1st and 3rd families as well as the approximate decoupling of atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations with nearly bi-maximal mixing factors. The similarity a...

It is shown that only two four-neutrino schemes are compatible with the results of all neutrino oscillation experiments. These two schemes have a mass spectrum composed of two pairs of neutrinos with close masses separated by the “LSND gap” of the order of 1 eV.
